By BOB BAIRDThe Eagles and Packers have had their ups and downs lately, but there was one game on Sunday that had them fighting it out for a win and a spot in the playoffs.
There were some key moments from the first half, and the most memorable one came late in the third quarter.
The Eagles were down 14-10 at the time.
They scored a touchdown on their next drive to take a 14-14 lead.
That led to an 8-yard pass to Jordan Matthews, who hauled in a pass and went deep to make it 19-14.
Then the Eagles got their third touchdown of the game on the next play, when Matthews ripped off a 6-yard run to make the score 26-14 and give the Eagles a 17-14 halftime lead.
The next play of the first quarter came on a 13-yard completion to Nelson Agholor.
The Eagles would score again on a 2-yard TD run by Aghor to make things 18-14 at halftime.
At halftime, the Eagles had the ball back and were able to pull away.
On the next drive, Aghorn ran up the middle for a 26-yard touchdown.
But it was the first time the Eagles would run the ball against the Packers this season.
This was a huge development for the Eagles, who had lost two straight games after a 13 -6 start to open the season.
This was one of the biggest upsets of the season, as the Eagles won 17 straight at home before they were beaten by the Packers 31-28 in overtime at Lambeau Field.
Agholor was a star in the game, rushing for a season-high 141 yards.
Also, Matthews finished with four receptions for 76 yards.
Matthews had nine catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.
That’s the first team rushing total in the Eagles history and first since 2014.
It was a big step forward for the offense, as they went from a unit that ranked 26th in the NFL in rushing to a unit with the No. 1 rushing offense in the league.
They also gained nearly 800 yards of offense and scored five touchdowns on the ground.
I was looking at this offense as a lot of guys were just going to get burned and not do a lot, so they just kept pushing forward,” coach Doug Pederson said.
With the win, the Packers won their second straight game.
They have lost four straight to the Eagles and two to the Steelers.
